Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a global licensing and content solutions organization, named the four winners of its Conference Scholarship Program for Academic Librarians: Susan Van Alstyne, Berkeley College; Nina Collins, Indiana Institute of Technology; George Gottschalk, Rogers State University; and John-Bauer Graham, Jacksonville State University. Each received a travel stipend of $1,500 to attend the ALA Annual Conference June 26 – July 1 in Las Vegas.
Applicants are full-time, permanent staff academic librarians employed by US-based academic institutions of higher education. Librarians submitted a response of up to 300 words to this question: “How will attending this conference benefit your institution and you professionally?” Responses were to include goals for attending the conference, how the conference would benefit the institution’s use and respect of intellectual property, and the applicant’s financial need in applying.
“We are cognizant that academic librarians are often the first, and in many cases, the only point of contact for faculty, staff, and students regarding copyright questions and issues,” said Tim Bowen, CCC’s Director of Academic Products and Services. “Our Conference Scholarship Program and other educational services provide the opportunity and resources to librarians to help increase their knowledge of copyright and better serve the intellectual property needs of content users.”
