San Francisco- The Universidad Nacional Autonoma Mexico (UNAM) and the Public Library of Science (PLOS) today announced a one-year agreement, brokered by Accucoms (PLOS' regional representative),that will allow UNAM researchers to publish in PLOS ONE and other select PLOS journals[1] without incurring article processing charges (APC).

Our Read & Publish Open Access (OA) initiative continues to go from strength to strength. Over 500 institutions in 39 countries are now participating, and this is helping to drive significant growth in OA publishing in our leading peer-reviewed subscription journals (Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology) and our fully OA journals (Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open).

Springer Nature has agreed the largest Transformative Agreement in Japan with 10 institutions participating in an innovative pilot. This will see nearly 900 articles published OA in the coming year, marking a significant step forward to Open Science in the region.  

IOP Publishing (IOPP) and the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) have agreed a three-year transformative agreement (TA) for unlimited open access publishing and access to IOPP’s journals. The agreement, which starts on 1 January 2023, is IOPP’s first TA in the Asia Pacific region, and CAUL’s first open access agreement with the largest physics publisher. It is expected to dramatically increase access to physical science research produced by Australian physics researchers. 

The world’s largest university press­, Oxford University Press (OUP), has today announced a transformative three-year Read and Publish agreement with major journals consortium, the Japan Alliance of University Library Consortia for E-Resources (JUSTICE).

Jisc and Peter Lang Group AG have announced a pilot project for a new collective purchase model. Greenlight from Peter Lang Open will publish and sell a licence for a selected group of monographs to institutions via Jisc’s subscriptions manager. The publisher will then make the eBooks freely available once it has met a revenue target.

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) announced today that it aims to make all fully RSC-owned journals Open Access within five years, making it the first chemistry publisher and one of the first society publishers to commit to a fully Open Access future.
