Our 2022-2024 Read & Publish Open Access agreement with the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) continues to be a great success, and we are delighted to announce that the number of institutions participating in 2023 will increase from 11 to 20.

The Public Library of Science (PLOS) today announced the release of the first results of a new initiative to measure researchers’ Open Science practices across the published literature, ‘Open Science Indicators’ (OSI). These initial results show increasing prevalence of good practices in research data and code sharing, and increasing use of preprints by researchers.

Cambridge University Press has made 21 of its physics titles available as open access books thanks to funding from SCOAP3, a global partnership with a mission to enable barrier-free, equitable open access to research in high‐energy physics. SCOAP3, the Sponsoring Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics, includes more than 3,000 libraries, funding agencies and research centres from 50 countries and intergovernmental organisations.

The Biden administration’s decision to drop embargos on publicly funded research will fuel strong open access publishing growth over the next four years—this according to the most recent report from media and publishing intelligence firm Simba Information.

UKRI has published updated information to support funded research organisations and researchers to meet its new open access policy. Peer reviewed research articles that acknowledge UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) funding have been required to comply with UKRI’s open access policy since 1 April 2022.

Strengthening the commitment to opening research, IOP Publishing (IOPP) has agreed to a three-year unlimited open publishing agreement with the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) consortium in the United States (US). IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, announced today that it has committed its full portfolio of more than 160 hybrid journals, which publish both open access and subscription-based content, to become Transformative Journals under Plan S. 

Springer Nature has today agreed its first transformative agreement (TA) in Mexico with partner Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), in Mexico. The TA is also the first and largest institutional TA for Latin America, showing extended support for open access (OA) across the Americas.

F1000 is delighted to announce today the launch of Health Open Research. This is an expansion of the former Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) Open Research, the open research publishing venue that “accelerates the real-world benefits of medical research.”  

Wiley, a global leader in research and education and publisher of the Cochrane Library, opened submissions today for Cochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods, Cochrane’s first open-access journal.
