Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical, and medical information products and services, today announced its collaboration with the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), the leading University of Russia’s Far Eastern Consortium, through a 5-year collaboration agreement including access to ScienceDirect and Scopus for all Consortium members from January 2013 onwards.
Russia’s Far Eastern Federal district has grown to become a key social and political focus for the Russian Government. Since the APEC Summit held in September of this year, a Ministry for Far Eastern Affairs has been founded and the region is designated to become Russia’s growing economic, commercial and research hub in Asia Pacific.
As the largest university in the region, FEFU plays a key role in this development plan and has established the Far Eastern Consortium, a consortium of more than 50 regional universities and academic institutes. Together, these universities and institutes aim to increase research output for the region, strengthen local academic relations, and drive international collaboration within the scientific arena.
Dr. Igor Protsenko, Vice-Rector for Science & Innovation at the Far Eastern Federal University said of the collaboration with Elsevier, “Supporting innovation and research development is essential for effective economic growth, not only in this region but also nationally, and globally. By providing the Consortium members with access to high quality scholarly resources and information, we are building regional capacity and embracing knowledge sharing and innovation in the Asia-Pacific scientific community. We look forward to strengthen our collaboration with Elsevier with this long-term project.”
Dr. Igor Osipov, Regional Director of Elsevier in Russia and Belarus said, “We are confident that this collaboration will enable FEFU to successfully fulfill its key role in the development of the region. We particularly welcome the University’s social function within the Consortium, helping other, smaller research institutes with fewer resources by providing them with access to ScienceDirect and Scopus. Elsevier and FEFU share the strategic goal to drive innovation across research and academic institutions.”
