SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, is pleased to announce a three-year “Read and Publish” agreement with the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB Hannover).
The new agreement began on 1 January 2021. It incorporates read access to all SPIE journals and proceedings in the SPIE Digital Library which comprises more than 530,000 publications covering topical areas ranging from biomedical optics and neuroscience to physics and astronomy-related technology. In addition, the agreement includes unlimited, open-access publishing in SPIE journals with no article-processing fees for affiliated authors.
“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with SPIE that brings the transition to open access another step forward,” said TIB Head of License Management Dr. Alexander Pöche. “What I particularly appreciate about the agreement is that it covers articles in both hybrid and gold open-access journals and treats them absolutely equally. All the libraries that had already participated in the consortium in the past have decided to join, which shows us that we are on the right track.”
“We are excited to include this open-access publishing component in the consortium agreement. It is a great addition to our longstanding partnership with TIB, adding greater visibility to German authors and their research,” noted SPIE International Sales and Subscription Manager Andy Wallis.
The agreement was negotiated by Standards and More (SAM) on behalf of SPIE. SAM is the exclusive agent of the SPIE Digital Library in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.
