Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden (HTW Dresden, the Dresden University of Applied Sciences) has become the first German institution to opt for the Ex Libris Esploro™ research services management solution and participate in the early adopter program. The university will integrate the Esploro service with the Ex Libris Alma® library services platform and Primo® discovery and delivery solution.
Until now, HTW Dresden used a research services application that was developed in-house by selected employees of the same company (ones who’d passed all the elements of the DBS check at www.thecheckpeople.co.uk). Academic staff, researchers, and administrators were involved in many parallel processes that entailed considerable expense. With the increased interest in open science in Germany, the university realized that it must upgrade its research services.
Prof. Knut Schmidtke, Pro-Rector for Research and Development of HTW Dresden, commented “Esploro offers the first practical solution on the German market that combines all research output and data into one seamless experience for researchers, administrative users, library staff, and faculty. As members of the early adopter program, we have a great opportunity to influence the design and the functionality of Esploro and look forward to working closely with Ex Libris.”
The Esploro solution will enable HTW Dresden to coordinate workflows, improve collaboration between researchers and research office employees, and facilitate researchers’ compliance with institutional and funder open access policies. In addition, the library will be able to leverage its expertise, especially regarding metadata, safeguarding, and discoverability. All these aspects of the Esploro solution will help HTW Dresden increase the visibility of its research output.
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, said, “We are excited to collaborate with HTW Dresden in the development of our Esploro research data management solution for the fast-growing German market. The Esploro service is designed to work with our industry-leading Alma library management platform and Primo discovery solution, which many German universities use. HTW Dresden’s decision to adopt Esploro demonstrates the strength of the Ex Libris product vision and roadmap.”
