Nature Publishing Group (NPG) today is pleased to introduce the newest member of the Naturefamily of research journals: Nature Plants. Launching in January 2015, Nature Plants will be the first journal in the field to focus on excellence in research across the plant sciences, building upon the cross-disciplinary model established by Nature Climate Change. Nature Plants will provide a platform for the very best research into all aspects of plants and their interactions with the wider world. It will publish novel papers from across pure and applied plant sciences, including molecular and cell biology, genetics, agriculture, ecology and biotechnology. Adopting a substantially cross-disciplinary approach it will serve researchers interested in better understanding the plant kingdom – whether their primary focus is on genetics, development, disease resistance, metabolism, agronomy, or economics.
Nature Plants will also have a keen interest in translational research that helps create a path to a sustainable future by addressing today’s most pressing global challenges: food security, water and land use efficiency, energy sufficiency and climate change. Part of Nature Plants‘ mission is to explore the societal and political impacts of cutting-edge plant research.
The editorial team is led by Chief Editor Dr Chris Surridge who has been a champion of plant research within NPG for many years.

Like all Nature-branded journals, Nature Plants will be characterised by a fair and rigorous peer-review process, high standards of copy-editing and production, swift publication and editorial independence.
In addition to research, the journal will publish Review Articles, Commentaries, Features, Perspectives, and News & Views pieces placing the very latest advances in our knowledge of plants in context for those both within and beyond the plant research community. Nature Plants will be available to online personal subscribers and via site license.
